This is a tutorial created by the folks at premiumcards.net.  It is in a older version of Photoshop CS3, but will work just fine in any of the newer versions.  Spot gloss is also known as spot varnish or spot uv coating.  It is the style of coating that is precisely placed on specific areas of a print job.  This works well on logos, as a background, design elements, etc.
